So Where Are The Best Hot Springs in Steamboat, CO?

July 12, 2012

Steamboat Springs has many things that make this area memorable and unique and the natural hot springs are one of them. Over 150 hot springs bubble up around Steamboat and they have been used by various people for centuries; from the Native American Indians to the first settlers that arrived in the area.

Enjoy the healing powers of these warm waters with these top 3 hot spring adventures.

1. Strawberry Park Hot Springs

The natural beauty of the Strawberry Park Hot Springs is what makes this spring so memorable. The spring is tucked up into the mountains above Steamboat and offers beautiful views, and multiple rock pools with water varying from 104 +/- degrees. The creek runs adjacent to the hot pools and is perfect for a cold dip. Admission is cash only, and remember to bring your towel and water. Also inquire about the on-site massage and watsu services that further enhance the healing powers of these mineral springs.

Tip: The road to the hot springs is rough 4×4 dirt road and all-wheel drive vehicles are required. To ensure you stay relaxed after your soak, we (strongly) suggest using one of the shuttle services that run daily – especially in the winter time: Sweet Pea Tours or Hot Spring Adventures.

Tip: Clothing is optional after dark.

2. Old Town Hot Springs

The Old Town Hot Springs, located in downtown Steamboat Springs, offers something for everyone. The naturally heated outdoor pools range from a giant rec pool, two 250-foot waterslides, climbing wall, lap pool, and multiple hot mineral pools ranging from 98-103 degrees. The facility is open seven days a week. Plus enjoy access to the fitness center, exercise classes, on-site daycare and massage options.

Tip: Make sure you soak in the famous Heart Spring, which is the source of all of all the hot water in the pools. It pumps approximately 220 gallons per minute! And the Heart Spring still sits on the historical site used by the Native Americans over 100 years ago.

3. Hot Spring Walking Tour

This is great way to view more of the infamous hot springs while getting a close-up look at the town of Steamboat. This walking tour begins at the west end of town, at The Depot. The Depot is Steamboat’s old train station located off 13th Street on your right after the Bud Werner Library. Tour your way through 5 hot springs sites from the intense Black Sulphur Spring to the blue murky waters of the Lithia Spring. End the tour at the Old Town Hot Springs to view the Heart Spring.

Tip: While perusing the hot springs stop for a quick lunch or relax a while at one of Steamboat’s perfect outdoor dining patios. After lunch continue on and once you finish your tour, take a dip at the Old Town Hot Springs.

It’s Almost Like Having Your Own Private Hot Spring…

Ok, so our condos with private hot tubs may not have the incredible healing mineral content of the natural hot springs. However, there is something to be said for the incredible healing powers of a long hot soak, with the added bonus of strong massaging jets… especially when you enjoy it in the privacy of your own home… especially with a cocktail (or two) on hand too! (Although we do have to chime in here and make sure that you don’t get dehydrated. Please drink lots of water!!!)
